“Preventing Tobacco Use Among Youth and Young Adults"

The Surgeon General released a new report today on Preventing Tobacco Use Among Youth and Young Adults. As an organizational members of NAQC, we wanted to make sure you had early copies of the information. Please feel free to share with your staff.

Health and Human Services Secretary Kathleen Sebelius, Assistant Secretary for Health Dr. Howard Koh, and Dr. Benjamin will discuss the importance of the new report and why preventing tobacco use among youth and young adults is critical to ending the tobacco epidemic.

A set of key messages that support the major conclusions of the report.

A fact sheet that supports the major conclusions of the report.

The 22-page Executive Summary that summarizes the evidence reported in the 900+ page Surgeon General’s report. This document provides the five major conclusions as well as each of the chapter conclusions from the full report.

The full report will be available on the Surgeon General’s Web site ( and the following additional Web materials will be available on OSH’s Web site (

An HHS press release will be disseminated at 10:00 a.m. (EST), on Thursday, March 8, 2012.

On March 8, the following products also will be accessible via OSH’s Smoking & Tobacco Use Web site. We’ll send a subsequent E-mail providing links to the following items.

2.A Web page on OSH’s Smoking & Tobacco Use Web site that summarizes key information from the feature article and provides links to the full report, the executive summary, the consumer guide, and related resources and social media tools that include the following:
